Brooklyn Gay Basher Gets Plea Deal, 9-Years After Near Fatal Beating of Dwan Prince

(Sept. 22) Steven Pomie admitted yesterday to brutally beating Dwan Prince nearly to death in 2005 to gain a 9-year plea deal. Pomie has been in custody since 2005. He will be eligible for parole in about 4 years.
Dwan Prince had slipped into a coma for a month after the brutal assault and remains partially paralyzed.
Pomie was convicted in 2006 of first-degree assault as a hate crime and would have faced 25 years. His conviction was reversed in appealed and would have faced the lesser charge of second-degree assault, carrying a 15 year sentence.
Prince was attacked by Steven Pomie around midnight in front of his apartment building while taking out the trash. Pomie was removing a pink tank top a noticed Prince looking at him. Words were exchanged and Prince responded with a flirtatious joke, according to witnesses.
Pomie left and later returned with two other men and commenced in brutally attacking Prince while hurling gay epithets. The men were scared off by a passing car but shortly returned to continue beating him. A neighbor saw the assault and tried to come between Prince and his attackers.
"The guy is dying here, and I'm not going to let you kill him in front of my house," Bascombe said to the attackers.
The three men ran off but Pomie returned to give Prince a kick in the head.
According to witnesses, Pomie said he beat Prince for, “talking that faggot shit.”
Pomie will be sentenced on October 13th.
