BET and Michael Vick are partnering up to bring Vick’s documentary style, 8-part series tentatively title The Michael Vick Project to cable early next year.

The series will explore Vick’s past, his time in prison, his reinstatement to the NFL and problems with his fiancé.

“We started filming that a long time ago, not with BET but just on my own. My own film crew,” Vick told Comcast Sports Net. “We haven’t been shooting lately. But it’s something we’ve been doing since I was in prison and through the bankruptcy.”

Vick said he is not currently filming during his time with the Eagles.

"I just want people to really get to know me as an individual," Vick told the Los Angeles Times. "What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I've made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it's not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up."

Vick’s own production company is producing the show and his producers say it will be different from other reality shows and have a more serious tone.

In a statement released today, Vick said: “This show can be a blueprint for so many kids. I want to show that if they have a fall from grace, this is how they can turn it around. We want this to be a story of hope."

In July of 2007, Vick faced felony charges of operating an unlawful six-year long interstate dog fighting venture known as "Bad Newz Kennels" at Vick's 15-acre property in Surry County, Virginia.\

Vick was accused of financing the operation, directly participating in dog fights and executions, and personally handling thousands of dollars in related gambling activities.

Vick served 18 months in Federal prison on a plea deal.
